The Namek Saga is the second saga of the Anime Dragon Ball Z. It covers the trip and arrival to Planet Namek by Bulma, Kuririn and Son Gohan. Later, it also covers the beginning of the fight with the ruthless Freeza and the arrival of Goku on Planet Namek and the first half of his fight with the Ginyu Force. The Namek saga follows the Saiyan Saga and precedes the Ginyu Saga.

Plot summary
After the epic with the Saiyans, Goku is rushed to the hospital. It's also revealed that because of Piccolo's death the Dragon Balls are now powerless. The only hope to bring back the dead heroes is to fly to Planet Namek, for the original Dragon Balls. Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan use an ultra-fast space craft to reach Namek. But they are not the only ones after the Dragon Balls.
Vegeta, after being seriously injured in his fight with Goku and the others, returns to Freeza Planet #79 to regenerate himself using a special medical tank. After fully recovering Vegeta feels stronger than ever. This is due to the fact that Saiyans have the unusual ability to reach higher power levels after healing from serious injuries. He discovers that his former boss turned enemy, Freeza, has already left for Namek after the Dragon Balls in order to realize his dream of immortality. Vegeta rushes off to Namek to find the Dragon Balls for himself.
Soon, Vegeta, Freeza, and our heroes all arrive on Namek with the seven Dragon Balls on their minds. There is one Dragon Ball per Namek village, each ball being protected by the village elder. Obtaining them proves all too easy for Freeza who, with the help of his minions and , bags four balls.
After a battle with Zarbon, Vegeta is again seriously wounded and he is brought to Freeza as a prisoner. It's revealed that Vegeta has hidden a Dragon Ball and is the only one who knows about. Freeza decides to summon the elite fighting team known as the Ginyu Force to find the Dragon Balls and take care of anyone or anything that gets in their way.
Meanwhile, Krillin is taken to Guru, the Eldest and leader of the Namekians, who is very ill. It's revealed that if Guru dies then the Namekian Dragon Balls will be gone forever and the good guys won't be able to wish back their fallen friends. When Guru puts his hands on Krillin he realizes that Krillin is good at heart and gives him a Dragon Ball for safe keeping. He also awakens the sleeping power within the bald monk.
After stealing the five Dragon Balls from Freeza and escaping his clutches, Vegeta finds Krillin and Bulma (Gohan is off looking for a Dragon Ball). He demands that they hand over the Dragon Ball. In exchange he would spare their lives.Unfortunately, Zarbon intervines and transforms into his uglier, more power form. Because of their last battle, Vegeta is stronger than the last time he and Zarbon fought and is able kill him with ease. Vegeta then takes the ball from Krillin and flies off, surprisingly keeping his promise not to kill them. Gohan shortly arrives with the Dragon Ball that he found at the bottom of the sea.
Back on Earth, Yajirobe visits Goku in the hospital and gives him a Senzu bean, instantly healing Goku and restoring his strength. Goku then goes to the Capsule Corporation to find that Dr. Brief has built a special ship that he can use to travel to Namek in order to help his friends. He is also able to train at 100 times Earth's gravity. He then takes off for Namek.
Meanwhile on Namek, Krillin takes Gohan to have his hidden powers unlocked by Guru. On the way they are stopped by Vegeta and he tells them that his wish of immortality is the only way of defeating the Ginyu Force, which has just arrived on the planet. Our heroes reluctantly agree but it's too late as the elite team arrives for the Dragon Balls. They retrieve the seven balls and Ginyu flies off to give them to Freeza, leaving the rest of the team to deal with Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan.
First up his Guldo who has the ability to freeze time by holding his breath. Eventually, Vegeta is able to figure the little green menace out and behead him, effectively killing him.
Next is the hulking brute, Recoome. He easily brings Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan to the brink of death.
Goku finally arrives on Namek and gives Gohan, Krillin and Vegeta Senzu Beans, and then effortlessly defeats Recoome thanks to his training in the ship. Gohan, Krillin and Vegeta all marvel at the extreme power Goku possesses. Burter and Jeice begin to attack Goku, but he doesn't seem at all concerned with the two members of the Ginyu Force.
Vegeta senses something has changed in Goku. He wonders if Goku has achieved becoming a Legendary Super Saiyan!
